The Translational Cancer Researcher Award to Elisa Oricchio: «Our research starts from a concrete clinical question. The goal is to develop a model that is predictive of what will happen to the tumor and that can then directly help the patients».
To carry on her research, she traveled overseas and after returned to Europe. Now this award brings her back symbolically to Italy: «I come from a small town in southern of Italy and to do high-level research it was necessary to move. To do research mobility is always important, even if you are in the best research center in the world.
Seeing different realities, comparing yourself with other institutions, opens your scientific vision, permits you to approach problems differently. However, I appreciated of Italy the quality of the educational system and also the public support and fellowships, which have been very important for me during my university career».
